Serco Group is a global provider of public services. Serco operates in six sectors of public service provision: Health, Transport, Justice, Immigration, Defence, and Citizens Services.
Serco Australia was contracted by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) in April 2016 to undertake the design, build and management of a new Antarctic Supply and Research Vessel to replace the existing capability provided by Aurora Australis.
The RSV Nuyina, is currently undergoing final testing and is on schedule to be commissioned in mid-2020. The RSV Nuyina will be operated and maintained by Serco Australia out of its home port of Hobart, Australia.
Serco is responsible for:
- Managing all the activities necessary to co-ordinate, develop, design, construct, integrate, test, commission and deliver the ship
- Managing and performing all the activities necessary to operate, maintain, repair, modify or adapt the ship and, where required, establish support through subcontract arrangements; and
- Maximising Australian industry participation (AIP) through engagement with local industry and network organisations.
- Serco also have to ensure that the RSV Nuyina will comply with all applicable legislation, classification society rules and regulations and the statutory requirements for a polar class vessel
