Nortek has a long history of supporting scientific and operational activities in the Antarctic through the design, development and manufacture of Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) instrumentation built for some of the world’s most demanding ocean conditions. Across polar regions, Nortek technology is used to measure ocean currents, waves and ice interactions in environments where reliable long-term observations are challenging to obtain. These measurements contribute to a greater understanding of ocean circulation, sea-ice dynamics and krill biomass, supporting both environmental research and sustainable marine operations.
In addition to our oceanographic instrumentation, Nortek’s Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) technology enables precise positioning and navigation in GNSS-denied environments, including subsea operations and beneath sea ice. By providing highly accurate bottom tracking, water tracking and current profiling, Nortek DVLs support reliable vehicle positioning and operational confidence in complex underwater environments.
Looking ahead, Nortek continues to invest in technologies that improve the quality, endurance and accessibility of ocean observations in remote regions. As interest and activity in polar environments continue to grow, along with the need for long-term environmental monitoring, Nortek remains committed to supporting the next generation of scientific discovery and subsea capability from our base in Hobart.
